826 National is a network of youth tutoring and writing centers with locations in seven cities-San Francisco, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, Ann Arbor and Seattle.
At the core of the organization is a dedication to helping students 6-18 with their English and writing skills, but each space offers a unique retail experience as well.
I was given a fictitious 826 Store (826 Honolulu) to create an identity for.
When researching Honolulu to find a theme, I found that they have a myth about ghosts. Hawaii’s night marchers are the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors. They are said to roam the Islands at night.
It is said that if you look the warriors in the eye, you are forced to march with them unless a relative makes a case for you to be spared, you will march with them forever.
Based on this myth, I created 826 Honolulu: The Institute for Paranormal Research, a retail space for paranormal investigative gear.
